Our first stop: Gezer!
We got lost on our way there, because, as our guide Salah informed us, no one wants to visit Gezer on tours, so he was not as familiar with how to get there. This was okay, because we were in our air conditioned bus, and quite comfortable.
To frame our reference for the trip we began in Tel Gezer, a city that was at the crossroads of the Ancient Middle Eastern World Trade Route. Throughout history, God has placed His people in influential places, so they are able to make a difference in His world. We were able to stand on stones that had been there for 4,000 years!!!
We will be learning a lot about the context and history of biblical times that will cause this LAND to come alive as we travel to these ancient places.
Our first Group photo was taken by these stones placed as a monument in 2,000 BC. No one knows why these stones were placed here. They are not living, so they cannot tell their story. In 1 Peter 2:9-12, we are called to be living stones, and to lives our lives in a way that continues to shine a light on God's Story.
If we are going to live at the crossroads, it does no good to be dead stones, we must be living stones.
